District 196 Information
History of Dupo High School and Jr. High
Dupo High School
The present school district was established in 1956, but the high school itself dates back to 1916, when it was classified as a 2-year school. It became a full-fledged 4-year school in 1920. Dupo has a large campus, with four major connected buildings that create the Junior-Senior High School.
The High School section is broken into three major segments which resulted
from three separate constructions. The oldest section, built in 1925, now houses
the administrative offices, the academic classes, special programs, guidance,
the small gym, the art room, and the library. The vocational building, which was constructed
in 1933 was not yet connected to the main building. This segment now houses the vocation
classes, band room, ROTC, and one special education classroom. The newest segment of the High School complex was added in 1942 and connects the two older buildings. This wing houses the new gym, cafeteria, and the Superintendent's office. The Junior High was added in 1960 and is presently the newest
building on the high school campus.
