Mr. Griffin’s School Orientation class recently participated in an engaging and impactful team-building activity led by two local Army National Guard recruiters. The session centered around three key themes—teamwork, resilience, and goal setting—and offered students a hands-on experience that connected leadership skills to real-world problem solving.
Students were divided into small groups and challenged to build creative structures using only simple materials such as straws, paper clips, and thumbtacks within a limited time frame. Once the construction phase was complete, they faced a new challenge: to disassemble their creations quietly and efficiently, testing their focus, communication, and adaptability under changing conditions.
The recruiters guided students through the process, emphasizing how these skills—collaboration, patience, and perseverance—are not only valuable in the military but also essential for success in school and life. Mr. Griffin noted that the activity encouraged students to reflect on how setting goals, working together, and supporting one another can help them overcome challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
Beyond the physical task, the activity helped strengthen relationships among classmates. Students learned to listen to one another’s ideas, divide responsibilities, and celebrate each team’s progress. The shared experience created a positive sense of unity and accomplishment that will continue to influence their interactions throughout the year.
Through this collaboration with the local Army National Guard recruiters, Mr. Griffin’s Orientation class gained more than just a fun activity—they developed leadership, resilience, and teamwork skills that will help them thrive as students and future leaders.
